Vic: Vic dairyfarmers in overwhelming vote for deregulation = 4

New National Party leader PETER RYAN says deregulation will bring enormous benefits
for farmers in Victoria, beginning with a $760 million slice of the adjustment package.

He says the current system penalises Victorian dairy farmers for their efficiency,
despite the fact that they control about 63 per cent of the national production of milk
and about 85 per cent of the export market.

The state government will remove controls the supply and price of drinking milk in
Victoria by repealing the Victorian Dairy Industry Act before the national deadline of
June 30, ahead of the end of the domestic marketing scheme the following day.
